What is Salvia?

What even is that? Salvia

🌱Salvia Divinorum is an herbal plant used for medicinal and religious purposes. It’s used as a homeopathic medicine in treatments for headaches, menstrual cramps, depression, eczema, and gastrointestinal problems🤒

🔮Careful! Salvia looks like Cannabis, but has much different effects. Salvia has recently gained popularity as a recreational drug because of its hallucinogenic effects. Salvinorin A is the main active component, which is a naturally occurring hallucinogen with that acts by binding to your kappa-Opioid receptors🧠

🍃Salvia is either ingested by chewing the leaves, infusing them into something and swallowing it, or - most popularly - inhaled via smoking, much like Cannabis. Common doses are between 200-500 micrograms of pure Salvinorin A. Dose depends on concentration of Salvinorin A, method of ingesting (smoke, chewing) and body weight. Salvia is slightly less potent than LSD🌈

🥴The main effects of Salvia are hallucinogenic effects and disruption of your vestibular and interoceptive signals (changes to your perception of balance and spatial orientation). Recurring experiences can also happen such as visiting childhood memories, experiencing cartoon-like imagery, or contact with entities👻

📈Effects typically peak at 2 minutes and by 20 minutes only have a mild residual effect😎

🔌Salvia impacts the brain’s activity by increasing brain power in the front of your cortex and decreasing brain power in the back of your cortex. There have also been human trials that use Salvia essential oil on patients with Alzheimer’s. In the trial, these patients experienced significantly greater improvements in cognitive function than the control group. However, this data should be additionally tried in future studies since the sample size was relatively small and the treatment duration was short😳

⚠️The most common risk associated with Salvia is a “bad trip.” Chronic consumption will produce symptoms of withdrawal, mainly anxiety, irritability, and a general feeling of being unwell😭
